botanicals

when exploring her graphic technique Julie realised that there was no better subject than Australian botanicals for their incredible beauty and diversity of colour and form.

in exclusively pursuing the plants endemic to this continent she hopes her artwork will inspire a greater knowledge of our indigenous flora and in turn encourage us to plant natives and protect habitats across Australia.

abstract botanicals

these more abstract works on canvas are still inspired by the Australian botanical world - but allow Julie to explore the seed pods and structural forms of these plants.

with these paintings, Julie continues to study the interior landscapes of seed pods
the deeper one goes, the more complex and abstract they become

coastals

these paintings on canvas are all the same size 30.5 x 30.5cm and are inspired by the beauty of the coastal beaches in particular the Northern Beaches. They are painted to order in a numbered limited series of 45.

kitchen pods

the original little paintings in Julie’s graphic technique, kitchen pods were designed to hang together ‘like peas in a pod’ and hang in clusters in kitchen and dining spaces they are mostly 20 x 25cm and painted to order in a limited numbered series of 45.

Australian PlantBank Residency 2018

over a series of visits to the PlantBank in the course of 2018 Julie was able to utilise different ways of seeing plant forms like x-ray and microscopy.

being able to explore these structures in more detail revealed new patterns, lines and forms and started Julie on an exciting path - discovering a new kind of archetypal landscape - only inside the seed pod.
